Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner en route to London Gatwick, crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, killing over 200 people. The flight carried 230 passengers and 12 crew members.

Tragedy Strikes Minutes After Takeoff
The plane took off around 6:45 a.m. but quickly issued a Mayday call citing engine failure and loss of lift. It crashed into a doctors’ hostel in the densely populated Meghani Nagar area, causing massive destruction on the ground and in the air.

Lives Lost and Impacted
At least 100 deaths are confirmed, with many more feared. The passengers included 169 Indians, 53 from the UK, 7 from Portugal, and 1 from Canada. Several medical students were also killed or injured in the hostel where the aircraft crashed.
