India-Afghanistan Diplomatic Relations UPSCC
India has announced the upgrading of its diplomatic mission in Kabul from a technical mission to a full-fledged embassy, marking a significant enhancement in ties with the Taliban-led government of Afghanistan. This move comes after four years of limited engagement following the closure of India’s embassy in Kabul in 2021 when the Taliban came to power. India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar made the announcement during the visit of Afghanistan’s acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi to New Delhi, the first high-level Taliban delegation visit to India since 2021.
