An Air India Boeing 787 flying from Ahmedabad to London crashed shortly after takeoff on June 12, 2025, into a residential area near BJ Medical College. All 242 people onboard are feared dead, including 53 British citizens. Among the passengers was former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, whose presence has been confirmed by officials. Rescue teams are still clearing debris, and the DGCA is investigating the cause with assistance from Boeing and GE. Airport operations have resumed.
