Why did Bhishma Ashtami take a vow of celibacy?
The Bhishma Ashtami was the grandsire of both the Kauravas and Pandavas. He fought on the side of the Kauravas due to his oath of loyalty. Despite his allegiance, he had immense love for the Pandavas. He tried to prevent the war but had to fulfill his duty as the commander of the Kaurava army.
