The sponsor entered regulatory review expecting that a statistically significant biomarker result would provide a compelling case for approval. Instead, the FDA focused on a different question: Was there sufficient evidence that changes in the biomarker translated into improvements patients could actually experience in their daily lives? Because that connection had not been convincingly established, the biomarker alone was not considered an adequate indicator of meaningful clinical benefit.
